My January & February 2018 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2018 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year. The Objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my January & February 2018 Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals.

Overview:

The start of this year has been refreshing. Not having the weight of my goals from 2017 is liberating, but also, knowing that I accomplished some big goals last year gives me great confidence walking into 2018. Furthermore, I find myself empowered in 2018 by all I’ve learned in 2017. This year my goals are more focused, I am more in line with my values and I am saying ‘no’ to opportunities which aren’t in alignment with my vision.

These past few weeks I’ve also experimented with taking more breaks. My weekends are now (for the most part) a no-work zone and I find this time to be highly valuable because I hit Mondays with a renewed energy and vigor. I also work harder during the weekdays because I respect and enjoy my off time on the weekends. It’s beautifully satisfying feeling closing my laptop Friday evening, knowing I put in good work all week and I have a weekend ahead of me to enjoy.

So without further ado, lets dive right into the goal review for January & February:

With love,
Sunny.

Goals for 2018:

1. I will make 7 figures in 2018

In the world of eCommerce, the start of the year is often very slow in comparison to the holiday season, for that reason sales on my eCommerce store have been lagging in performance. I’ve actually listed my store for sale, with the intention to focus on areas which are more in alignment with my passions and interests. Currently, running an Outdoors Store isn’t as exciting as it once used to be. On a more positive note, I’ve finished everything needed for my 2017 goal to “launch a subscription business” in the form of Fit Joe Coffee. I’m really excited about this brand and am confident it will help me achieve this goal in combination with my other ventures below.

2. I will  make an App by April 2018

These last two months have been very productive in designing & developing my second app called FOCUS. FOCUS is an app designed to help train your focus & concentration with the combination of binaural beats & meditation. We are taking a lean approach to this app, incrementally releasing progressive builds and adding additional features and incorporating user feedback as we go.  At the time of writing this blog post, I have finished the Wireframes, Design and Logo for the first public release of the app which we should have within the first week of March.

3. Understand Cryptocurrency and build a Winning Portfolio by December 2018

I already hold modest but fairly diverse crypto portfolio. The goal here is to continue to learn about Blockchain technology, it’s uses and be able to predict winning coins, teams and technology. Earlier this month I attended a Cryptocurrency Mastermind meeting here in Vancouver, with a room full of 20 people—including experts in the space of crypto, developers, marketers and crypto newbies alike. The presentation was valuable and the people I met during and after the event were sharp, friendly, futurists who freely and excitedly exchanged their knowledge. I am making it a point to attend more events like this in the future.

Lastly, I’ve also encouraged my parents to diversify their portfolio by investing in some Cryptocurrency. Helping setup up their own crypto portfolio. As I continue to learn more about Cryptocurrency, I believe even having a small position in the market with the right coins could be valuable in the long run.

4. Create and Distribute a Hardcover Journal by Fall 2018

I purposely haven’t started this project yet. I want to wait until Fit Joe is fully launched and the bulk of the design work for FOCUS has been complete before I start this project. I also need to raise some funding for this project if I am to print out a pallet of journals. Alternatively, I might start a kickstarter campaign. The first step here would be to decide if I am to fund this project myself, or to generate interest & funding with Kickstarter.

5. Hit 200lbs in bodyweight by June 2018

My training these past few weeks has been new and challenging. In the first week of January I joined an Olympic Lifting gym in my area. My goal is to really understand and become proficient in the 3 main Olympic lifts so I have a strong base for all my other weight training. I found in my old, traditional gym my technique wasn’t being critiqued and I wasn’t being pressure tested. This new gym has trainers which constantly walk around the class of 12 students, adjusting and providing feedback as we go.

At the start, I found Olympic lifting to be extremely challenging and technical. I am however noticing changes in my body composition including my posture and performance.  I’m just starting to get into the flow of Olympic lifting now – the lifts themselves are starting to feel better, I’m getting stronger and I’m beginning to understand the nuances of each lift which is making my training much more enjoyable.

6. Learn to cook 5 healthy high protein Indian dishes by October 2018

These last 2 months I’ve been cooking much more than I ever have in my life! Opting to eating home 90% of the time and doing meal prep every Sunday—the processing is slowly starting to become more familiar. I’ve also started baking something once a week (instead of buying snacks) choosing to bake my treats so I know exactly what’s in them. So far I’ve made banana bread, blondies and banana nut muffins.

My kitchen flow was horrible when I started—I was a mess, but I’m slowly starting to learn how to be efficient in the kitchen; my chopping skills are getting better, and perhaps even more importantly my weekly meal prep dishes are starting to turn out quite tasty!

Though I haven’t made any Indian food yet (as per my goal) next week instead of baking, I will be making a healthy Indian Kheer (rice pudding) with extra protein. This should kick-start this goal.

7. I will write, sing & perform music by Dec 31st 2018

This year I’m singing in in the YVR POP CHOIR for a 4th term in a row. I’m also performing at Total Vocal in New York City in March with 400 other singers and I’ve got a part in a 5 person performance in April too. Rehearsals for all these has been time consuming and a little stressful, but I’m finding myself improving as a singer and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I need to improve the way I practice for all this because it is a little overwhelming but despite this, I’m very happy with this goal so early in the year.

8. Do an epic travel/hike in Fall of 2018

No plans have been made here, yet. But ideal locations are Mt Kilijamaro in Tanzania or Mt Fuji in Japan. I will let a destination come to me naturally instead of forcing it and make plans accordingly. My ideal time to travel is when the weather here in Vancouver isn’t ideal, so I’m aiming for a date in Fall or Winter of this year.

Goal Plan for 2018

If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” Benjamin Franklin

Objective:

2018 is the second year I am holding myself publicly accountable to my goals both through this blog & with accountability partners in my mastermind groups. The purpose of writing my goals in the format below is to clearly plan and organize my commitments, understand my motives and learn about myself from the entire experience. In addition to my Yearly Goal Plan, I will be writing Monthly Updates, which will serve as a mechanism to “course correct” as the year progresses. Throughout this process, I will be 100% truthful with myself and learn from both my wins and blunders.

Theme for 2018:

Maximize by Minimizing: Perhaps you’ve heard the term “less is more”. This is a theory I learned in Design School. Too often newer students (myself included) would add too many elements to a logo trying to distinguish it or make it unique. But this would have the opposite effect—often the simplest logos stood out the most and created the strongest brands. The nosiest logos were too busy and failed to catch the attention of the masses.

This was me last year; I tried to make my year extra fancy. I had 20 goals in all different areas of my life. But by doing regular reviews, I came to realize that this was way too many goals for me—I was overwhelmed, and nearly suffocated by my commitments in Q4 of 2017.

This year, with the encouragement of my friend Boris Kerjner, I spent some time reflecting on my values before committing to my goals.  I used the DiMartini Value Determination exercise to help me with this. I spent time really thinking about the things I  value the most and did my best to align my goals with those things, such as financial freedom, creative expression, adventure & fitness.

In the process, I’ve cut the number of my goals in less than half – opting for a range of 6-8 goals. Here they are.

Goals for 2018:

1. I will break 7 figures in 2018

I believe we’re living in the golden age of the internet marketing – that time before everyone and their grandma is saturating the online space (though that’s already starting to happen!). Because this is the “Gold Rush” ere, I believe it’s time to take advantage of this Gold Rush and set yourself up for financial freedom NOW. I plan to do this in a few ways. Which are outlined in my goals list below. But again, like last year, my #1 goal is a financial goal and this goal sets the tone for goals 2, 3 and 4.

2. I will  make an App by April 31st 2018

In 2012 I made my first app. 6 years later I’m back at it again. This time around I’m focused on improving my focus(and yours!) My goal is to create an app which helps train you to focus using a dynamic meditation technique. This practice should give you more in control of your habits and productivity.

3. Understand Cryptocurrency and build a Winning Portfolio by Dec 2018

The world is changing. Technology is evolving rapidly, and I want to not only understand it but to invest in it. I believe Cryptocurrencies will change the way we exchange value and the blockchain is the internet 3.0—these are technologies of the future. My goal is to invest my time and money into this exciting new sector and become an expert in this space.

4. Create and Distribute a Hardcover Journal by Fall 2018

In 2016 I created a digital “PDF” Journal called Plan & Conquer which I gave away with my eBook “The Bushido Code”. The feedback I received for this was overwhelmingly positive, though one question I frequently received was, “can you make this into an actual book or an app?!”. This year I’m finally doing exactly that—creating a Hardcover Journal which I can sell as a stand-alone product. But to provide extra value, I’m also going to be creating a complimentary Journaling course to go with it. Journaling has been one of the biggest game changers in my life. I believe in it strongly and want to help others by creating the best journal in the world.

5. Hit 200lbs in bodyweight by June 2018

I remember in 2009, new years eve—I stepped on the scale and I was 199.9lbs. Heavy and unhealthy, my goal was to slim down to my normal weight of 175 lbs. Fast forward 9 years and I’m looking to get back up to 200lbs, only this time bigger, faster and stronger than ever before.

6. Learn to cook 5 healthy high protein Indian dishes by Oct 2018

Both my parents are amazing cooks. My dad is even a chef. Growing up I was fed healthy, delicious food. It’s fair to say I took it for granted until I got older when I really began to appreciate what a blessing it was. If I had to say 1 thing my parents were best at, it would be their cooking. My goal is to begin to learn the art of Indian cooking, with the eventual goal to share this art with the world through a book or app.

But for now, my goal for 2018 is to just get started. I am a novice in the kitchen. I want to learn 5 basic dishes but healthy dishes.

7. I will write, sing & perform music by Dec 2018

Music and creative expression are important values to me. In the past year, I have been singing with the YVR Pop Choir and I look forward to continuing singing with them, but also pursuing my own independent music, both in singing and songwriting. Years ago I would write lyrics and produce music, I want to get back into that. without feeling obligated to create. I just want to write, sing and create.

8. Do an epic travel/hike in the Fall of 2018

I crave adventure. I like the idea of being in a brand new location, not knowing anyone or even the language. Culture shock excites me. The challenge of it all, the unknown. This year I will travel to an epic destination which involves a climb of some sort. Be it Mount Fuji or Kilimanjaro, I’m not sure yet, but I know I want to be on the top of the world.

My November & December 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my review for  November & December 2017, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made on it. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Overview:

As the year comes to a close I am grateful for the experience these 365 days have provided. This was my first time setting goals in this manner and it was also the first time I’ve ever made any of my goals public. The experience itself was unique and valuable.

I learned many things about myself these past 12 months. I will review in more detail how I will apply my learnings in 2018 in my January 2018 Blog Post, in the meantime here are my 3 biggest learnings which stood out from this goal setting process.

1. I overwhelmed myself by setting too many goals. lol yup, who would have thought, 20 goals is too many, especially for a first attempt. I really set expectations high. Even though I tried my best to diversify my goals in difficulty, time and complexity etc,  it felt like I was always chasing after something. I underestimated the time, energy and focus involved. Simply put, I wasn’t ready to tackle 20 goals.

2. Setting 20 goals all with a deadline of Dec 31st, wasn’t smart. This caused me a lot of pressure near the end of the year. In October I experienced a paralysis of sorts by the overwhelming number of goals I had yet to achieve. During that time I went almost 2 weeks without doing anything at all, I had a fear of taking action.

3. Goal setting works. Theirs no doubt about it; having a desire, writing it down and working towards it day-in-day-out is a surefire formula for success. In years passed I started the year with good intentions but my energy levels towards my goals quickly faded. This was the first time I’ve accomplished more than 3 goals in 1 year.

This year I accomplished 6 goals fully and came VERY close to accomplishing another 4. I’m proud of my efforts and I can’t wait to take what I’ve learned from 2017 with me into 2018.

With love,
Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. DONE – I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
November was our strongest month to date—by a long shot! The combination of the Holiday Season and Black Friday/Cyber Monday surpassed our expectations. Because of this bump and a solid investment in cryptocurrencies in Q4 we were able to hit our 5x target.

This first goal was my biggest and most important goal. As an entrepreneur, it is my responsibility to be driven, because the alternative to be passive and lazy is too darn easy and tempting.  Targets help us push ourselves and grow. Additionally, as a newer entrepreneur, I needed confirmation that quitting my job in Q3 2015 was the right thing to do.  This goal was #1 on my list for a reason, it shaped the following 8 goals and I’m very happy I achieved.

2. 90% COMPLETE – I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
My new Coffee Brand is almost ready to launch. We have our first batch of a product designed, labeled and ready to be shipped to the fulfillment house. The landing and sales pages are done and ads and social media products are almost done too. Realistically, this project is probably still about 4 weeks out from an official launch, just due to logistics – so even though I didn’t make the self-inflicted “deadline” I’m so excited to get this thing shipped out and see what people think of it!

3. INCOMPLETE – I will easily host my first Retreat by December 31st 2017:
Beyond the progress made early in the year on this task, no additional progress was made on this goal. If I am to be honest, my desire to hold a retreat faded mid-year. Instead of pursuing something with dwindling interest I decided not invest energy into this goal this year. It wasn’t the best use of my time nor did the timing of this goal fit in with my larger plan. The desire to hold a retreat was a bit premature. I still do have a desire to hold retreats on the topic of ancient wisdom and high performance with my circle, but only when the calling is stronger.

4. INCOMPLETE – I will easily be a Certified High-Performance Coach by December 31st 2017:
As a student of personal development for over 10 years, I’m aware of the large and growing number of underqualified personal development gurus in the market and didn’t want to be one of them. For this reason, I feel a strong calling to getting certified in the area of high-performance by my long-term mentor Brendon Burchard.

The Certification is an intense, week-long hands-on workshop in California that only happens once a year—it’s also expensive. With a huge pull into eCommerce this year to reach goal #1 on this list, I invested less time and energy into my Personal Development work. I did this because it made sense in order to reach goal #1 easier, and it was the right thing to do.

Lesson: The landscape of goals and motivations changes. Learn to be flexible in your approach.

5. 90% COMPLETE – I will easily Launch a Course by December 31st, 2017:
Well, the Bushido Body course is finally wrapped up! All 10 modules have been recorded, edited and mastered. What I haven’t done yet is release this course into the wild. This still needs some time, though not too much. I came very close to finishing this goal within the year, its something that we’ve been working on for over a year so I’m glad to finally have it all recorded and ready for launch. I learned a lot from this project. My biggest learning was how to efficiently schedule teams (this project had many moving parts and was difficult to coordinate all parties involved) I also learned that I need to work with a sense of speed and urgency, especially with group projects because as time passes, enthusiasm dwindles.

6. DONE – I will easily hire a team by December 31st, 2017:
This year we successfully added a Copywriter, Video Talent, an IT Person and a full-time customer service team to our staff. As time progressed, we added a total of 10 people to our team.  One thing I’ve learned is the task of hiring a team is one that never ends. I’m always looking for that next rock star that can help take us to the next level. But I’m very happy with where our team is at now, especially in comparison to the start of the year.

7. INCOMPLETE – I will easily record 30 videos by December 31st 2017:
Fear. That’s why progress wasn’t made on this goal. Throughout the last few years of writing in my journal and recording my progress in all areas of my life, I’ve noticed I delay or put off indefinitely tasks which scare me the most. Video is a huge fear of mine, I believe with all my heart that when I get into it, I will be good at what I do – but for the time being, I have a paralyzing fear of video and for that reason haven’t made any videos. Well, that’s not technically true, because I have made a series of videos for a Journaling Course I created in 2015, but I never released it because I didn’t feel like it was good enough.

So, how do I get rid of this fear? I know the answer, and it’s simple—I just feel the fear and do it anyways. I will regroup and tackle this goal again in the near future.

8. INCOMPLETE – I will easily write 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
Writing is therapeutic for me. In addition to learning and digesting information better through writing, I enjoy the process of writing and gain great joy from a well-written post. However, in the last year or so I’ve been writing less, so in an effort to motivate myself, I made it a goal to write almost every day in 2017. Sadly, that didn’t happen.

Despite enjoying writing, I don’t always write. I only write when I’m motivated. This past year I wasn’t very motivated to write, mostly because it took time and energy away from my main goal of 5x-ing my income. Now that I feel comfortable with where I’m at financially, I will revisit writing more in 2018.

Learning: These goals of writing x-times a week or mediating x-days a week aren’t great goals. For me, they don’t work. These are the goals I had the hardest time with and I think it’s because missing even a day is demotivating.

9. DONE – I will easily reach 200,000 followers on Social Media by December 31st:
Currently, we’re at 300,000 followers for the eCommerce brand and just under 60,000 followers for my personal development brand. That’s a total of 360,000 followers. Goal reached!

Health & Fitness Goals:

10. INCOMPLETE – I will easily be in great shape by December 31st, 2017
Did I reach my goal of being in “great shape”? Good question. I started this blog to be held accountable, but also to be honest with myself and learn in the process. There were times this year when I looked my physique and was happy with the results. But, I’m very aware of my potential and I don’t think I hit my peak potential this year as I had intended. Most notably I found myself lacking in my bulk phase. This has been the case for many years, I am great at leaning out but bulking is difficult for me, mostly because I find it hard to eat as much as I need for optimal growth. With that said though, I am the strongest I’ve ever been. My posture has never been better and I’m the most technically sound at the gym that I’ve ever been. I also learned new movement modalities (Functional Patterns) and have become quite competent in calisthenics.

I am going to leave this goal and INCOMPLETE to serve as motivation for my fitness goals in 2018. I hold myself to a high standard and look forward to reaching GREAT shape in 2018.

2018 Fitness Goals:
– Bulk: 205
– Cut: 185 @ sub 10% BF

11. 80% COMPLETE – I will easily do the Splits by December 31st, 2017:
This is one of those goals which I started with lots of effort, stretching each day at the gym, but then neglecting my stretching routine all throughout summer and fall and then focusing on it again with lots of effort in the winter. I made some really great gains during those times of practice, but unfortunately not enough to say I achieved full splits. This is the lowest I’ve been able to take my splits ever, so I’m happy with my results, but it’s also a bit bittersweet knowing that I was so close to my goal without achieving it.

12. INCOMPLETE – I will easily hire a personal Muay Thai Coach by December 31st 2017:
I didn’t manage this goal this year. I don’t really know why. I love martial arts and I’m good at them too. Looking back, it might be due to poor planning—I left this goal until the last minute, maybe I under-estimated it? Or perhaps it had something to do with the polarity of my fitness goals. On one hand, my goal was to get bigger and stronger, on the other hand, Muay Thai is a largely aerobic discipline, countering the effects of bulking and lifting heavy weights. This might be an excuse and probably is.

Travel & Lifestyle

13. DONE – I will easily cross off 2 different destinations on my LIFE LIST by December 31st 2017
I successfully visited Montreal and New York City this summer. Both cities wowed me in different ways. To summarize, the European influence in Montreal made it seems like I had a little piece of Europe in my own backyard (without the 10-hour flight, the language barrier or the need to change currencies) and the sheer size and scale of New York City inspired me to dream bigger and grow my business to new heights.

Later in the year I was in Dallas, Texas for Entrepreneurs Dinner 7 – Luxury Yacht Experience, hosted by my good friend Rob Collier, and just last week I returned from a beautiful vacation with my family in Maui, Hawaii (our first family trip in recent history!). This year was very adventurous and I feel blessed for these amazing opportunities and look forward to many more 🙂

14. DONE – I will easily have lived in a Creative Space / Loft by December 31st, 2017:
This year I’ve spent my time living in a beautiful bright sub-loft in an active, sprawling part of the city next to the beach, some of my favorite cafes and close to the downtown core. In the process, I’ve learned a lot about the Vancouver real estate market and in the future, I look forward to purchasing property in this beautiful city.

15. 50% COMPLETE – I will easily record a Song by December 31st, 2017:
This summer I had the pleasure of performing a solo of Hozier’s Take me to Church with my choir, the YVR Pop Choir. This was my first ever performance, and I was lucky enogh to have it recorded—which technically was the requirement for this goal… but, the truth is I also had the intention of recording my first original song this year, which didn’t happen. So because of that, I’m marking this goal only 50% complete.

Next year I plan to put more time and energy into my music. Music is something I enjoy with all my being, I see it as a big part of my future.

Personal Development Goals:

16. 80% COMPLETE – I will easily follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st, 2017:
I’ve been following morning routines for the past 6-7 years. When first introduced to the idea, I realized right away the huge benefit of having a well throughout morning routine to help with energy, focus, and productivity. This year I’ve applied my morning routine more so than ever before.

Having my morning routine printed out and on the fridge helped keep me consistant—it’s easy to veer off route when it’s dark and cold out and you’ve just woken up feeling groggy. But having my routine posted on my fridge has kept me focused, even when my willpower is low.

Dispite not completing my morning routine every day this month, it’s hard not to be happy with my progress. I can say with confidence I have a well thought out morning routine which I do MOST days, and I’m content with that.

17. 90% + COMPLETE – I will easily Meditate 100 days in a row by December 31st, 2017:
In the last 100 days, I mediated a total of 94 days, which means I missed 6 days. Before this goal, I was probably meditating 2x a week, so that’s a great improvement. Though I didn’t make this goal, this is an example of how just striving for a goal is so helpful. If it wasn’t for this goal, I still think I would be only mediating a couple of times a week. This goal helped me realize the importance of mediation in my day and how meditation helps with all areas of my life. I will continue this practice moving forward and aim to one day meditate daily without compromise.

18. INCOMPLETE – I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st 2017:
This year I completed 8 books and if I am to be honest, I didn’t “read” most of them – instead, I listened to them as audiobooks. This was a great way for me to digest information while commuting, but it wasn’t the best way to retain that information for the purpose of writing book reports.

Looking back, I believe I didn’t write reports for any of these books because I simply wasn’t actively note taking. This is a huge learning for me. I watch lots of podcasts, documentaries, courses – and I don’t always have a notepad with me. This information is loosely absorbed and it’s just not efficient. Moving forward I plan to take notes while doing any kind of learning, including reading.

19. INCOMPLETE – I will easily attend 1 Personal Development Event by December 31st, 2017:
Reflecting back on this year, I’ve actually been to many Personal Development Events and Talks. I attended the Samurai Brotherhood Open House, the Man Talks Hike & Talk Event and even a Satsung hosted by my dear friend Boris Kerjner. I also traveled to Dallas Texas for an Entrepreneurs Dinner Event. But the honest intention for this goal wasn’t to attend short events, but rather to attend a seminar, preferably a powerful multi-day seminar to really empower me and my vision. I didn’t find myself called to anything. The events I wanted to attend, I found myself out of town. Not achieving this goal was due to a lack of planning my year. I will remember this lesson moving forward.

Selfless Service

20. DONE – I will easily donate 1000 articles of clothing to the Homeless
This was a very satisfying, feel-good goal to accomplish. Together with a local SEVA group, we donated food, water, and winter care packages (gloves, socks and a toque) to those in need in Vancouver Downside East Side. We also supplied the Vancouver Covenant House, an organization who helps youth who have fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse with winter care packages too. In total, we successfully donated 1000 articles of clothing and plan on increasing this number as the years go by.

End of review.

My October 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my October Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Monthly Overview:

As I roll into Q4, the last quarter of the year, I found myself a little overwhelmed by all the goals I still had left to complete. Enough so, that strong hesitation built within me to write this review. But then, I took time to reflect on my progress and reminded myself that this was my first time setting goals in this style—not only that, but I also set 20 goals for myself—which is a lot! lol

One of the beautiful things about publicly stating your goals & intentions is the accountability that comes with the territory. In the past, I might have quit or cut my goals list in half, today I stand determined to do the best I can and learn from the process.

So instead of being paralyzed by the months ahead of me, I took this opportunity to remind myself of my strengths. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a strong finisher. I’ve always performed best when the pressure was on and that was likely one of the reasons I was a chronic procrastinator growing up.

So this month I’ve been focusing on my finishing strong. Focused, uninterrupted work blocks, clear goals and targets, streamlined communication and earlier mornings have all contributed to higher output. And now, my fear of overwhelm has turned into motivation and excitement. Motivation to get my ass into high-gear and excitement to see how I finish the year. And so, I enter Q4 with confidence…

May Q4 remind you of your own strengths!

With love,
Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. IN PROGRESS – I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
October has been a very strong month for us. E-commerce as a trend tends to be strongest in Q4 with the holiday season, so this was expected to some degree. But over the last year, we’ve been able to optimize our landing pages, improve the targeting of our facebook ads, and streamline our teams processes—all of which have contributed to higher earnings. I expect to see this growth strengthen as we head into November and December.

2. IN PROGRESS – I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
Progress on the Plan & Conquer Action Journal and Subscription Coffee brand is coming along well—though admittedly a little slower than I would like. I’m confident I’ll get at least 1 of these products shipped by December which would fulfill this goal—however, I don’t know how much it will contribute to goal #1, as a brand new product launch isn’t often optimized for conversion. Regardless, I’m excited by the possibilities for both these brands, especially in 2018.

3. INCOMPLETE – I will easily host my first Retreat by December 31st 2017:
Beyond the progress we made early in the year on this task, no additional progress was made on this goal. If I am to be honest with myself, a retreat is looking quite ambitious right now. Though we have the outline created and even sourced some potential locations to hold it—2017 might not be the year of my first retreat. Note to self: If this goal doesn’t happen, hold a post-mortem for all the goals which didn’t come to be to figure out what happened and what could be improved.

4. INCOMPLETE – I will easily be a Certified High-Performance Coach by December 31st 2017:
Well, it seems like I dropped the ball on this one. Initially, I was planning on taking the CHPC training in Spring of 2017, but I changed my mind and decided to do it in the Fall instead. Unfortunately, it seems the fall certification week has either been canceled or is now full. So needless to say, I won’t be able to fulfill this goal this year. The certification is a hefty $10k USD and in all honesty, parts of me were a bit reluctant. But with the launching of my “Plan & Conquer” Journal, a high-performance certification would be a nice asset to my skill set and I will instead now pursue this certification in 2018.

5. IN PROGRESS – I will easily Launch a Course by December 31st, 2017:
At the end of July my team and I wrapped up the last day of filming for the Bushido Body course. Currently, our video guru, Nate Slaco is editing the hours of footage we’ve collected and I will soon begin to create the marketing funnel. I expect to have this course ready for launch in December, so we can take advantage of the New Years resolution crowd in January.

6. DONE – I will easily hire a team by December 31st, 2017:
This summer we’ve successfully added a Copywriter, Video Talent, an IT Person and a full-time customer service team to our staff. As time progresses, we will continue to further round out our team.

No progress has been made on this goal yet—yikes! With the short time frame, I’ve refocused on how I’m going to be making these videos and I’m opting for quick 1-min style videos which will be sharable on Instagram as well as YouTube. I will be batch processing this goal in December.

8. INCOMPLETE – I will easily write 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
Ok, with only a couple months left this year it’s time to get serious about this goal. As I’ve stated in previous reviews, I haven’t managed to keep a steady writing rhythm. My writing streaks have been broken multiple times and I find myself not putting my thoughts on paper for weeks and months at a time. This is simply because I don’t have writing scheduled into my routine, I write only when inspired, and after reading “The War of Art”, by Steven Pressfield, I’ve come to learn that most writers have a daily writing practice, where they spend time writing, inspired or not. So I will be reintroducing this to my morning routine.

9. DONE – I will easily reach 200,000 followers on Social Media by December 31st:
Currently, we’re at 180,000 followers for the eCommerce brand and just under 60,000 followers for my personal development brand. That’s a total of 240,000 followers. Goal reached!

Health & Fitness Goals:

10. IN PROGRESS – I will easily be in great shape by December 31st 2017
This past month I was able to lean out a considerable amount by reducing my overall caloric count, eating less carbs and increasing my healthy fat intake while practicing fasting on a regular basis. I’m very happy with my results, though I’m not sure if I’ve reached “the best shape of my life”, mostly because it’s hard to measure this—the last time I was the leanest I was around 168lbs which I feel is too small for my frame. What I can say is that this is the best my body has felt in years. I feel strong, my body is balanced, functional and flexible. My posture is good and for the first time in many years, I am injury free.

As I transition back into a bulking phase, I must outline my goals for 2018. My goal is to reach 205 lbs during my bulking phase (this will be the biggest I’ve ever been by 5 lbs) and then lean down to 185 at sub 10% BF.

2018 Fitness Goals:
– Bulk: 205
– Cut: 185 @ sub 10% BF

11. IN PROGRESS – I will easily do the Splits by December 31st, 2017:
Since moving downtown, I’ve neglected my splits stretching routine. It’s safe to say that I haven’t made much progress on my splits this month, but I don’t think I’ve lost any of my flexibility either. With that said, I don’t have much time left to accomplish the splits – only 2 months now, so I’m recommitting myself to my splits routine and I will be increasing the frequency and duration of my stretches to make up for lost time.

12. IN PROGRESS – I will easily hire a personal Muay Thai Coach by December 31st 2017:
Despite having sign-up for a free trial at a local Muay Thai gym near my place last month, I have yet to take advantage of it and still need to attend a class. I’m not too worried about this though, the gym is just a few blocks down from my house and it’s not like I ever stopped training. I will get this goal done.

Last month I was in Dallas, Texas for Entrepreneurs Dinner 7 Luxury Yacht Experience, hosted by my good friend Rob Collier, and in December this year I’ll be doing a Hawaii trip with family (the first family trip in recent history!).

14. DONE – I will easily have lived in a Creative Space / Loft by December 31st, 2017:
This summer I’ve spent my time living in a beautiful bright sub-loft in an active, sprawling part of the city next to the beach, some of my favorite cafes and close to the downtown core. In the process, I’ve learned a lot about the Vancouver real estate market and in the future, I look forward to purchasing property in this beautiful city. Photos of my space coming soon 🙂

15. IN PROGRESS – I will easily record a Song by December 31st, 2017:
This year has been musically fruitful. I had the pleasure of performing a solo with my choir, the YVR Pop Choir this Summer and I’m looking forward to working with my choir director 1-on-1 to bring the very first song I ever wrote to life in Q4. Stay tuned!

Personal Development Goals:

16. IN PROGRESS – I will easily follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st, 2017:
This past month I’ve been diligent about following my morning routine. I’ve found solace in doing my routine because of the way I feel each time I do it. Since I don’t work a traditional Monday-Friday 9-5 job, I often commit to doing my morning routine 7 days a week. I think this has helped the consistency. My morning routine is always a work in progress, as I am adding and removing elements from it all the time.

17. IN PROGRESS – I will easily Meditate 100 days in a row by December 31st, 2017:
To date, I’ve meditated 36 days in a row. And if you read last months review, you’ll remember I modified this goal from mediating every day in 2017, to meditating 100 days in a row in 2017. To ensure success with this, I’ve asked for some accountability from a good friend who is doing the challenge with me. Together we have been holding each other accountable with daily texts. So far so good. I look forward to completing this goal and reaping the rewards as I notice the massive benefits of a deep meditation each and every time.

18. INCOMPLETE – I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st 2017:
Thus far, I’ve read 7 books this year, which brings me to only half of the books I’ve aimed for this year and the thought of writing a report for each of these books feels overwhelming. This goal was poorly planned, to the point where I didn’t write any notes for any of the books I’ve read – at least not enough to write reports on them. Because of this, I am eliminating this goal from this years list simply because the scale of this goal will take away time from completing other goals.

19. IN PROGRESS – I will easily attend 1 Personal Development Event by December 31st, 2017:
Reflecting back on this summer, I’ve actually been to many “Personal Development Events”. I attended the Samurai Brotherhood Open House, the Man Talks Hike & Talk Event and even a Satsung hosted by my dear friend Boris Kerjner. And at the end of the month, I’m booked to attend the Entrepreneurs Dinner Event in Dallas, Texas. But the intention for this goal wasn’t to attend short events, but rather to attend a seminar, preferably a powerful multi-day seminar to really empower me and my vision. I’m still on the hunt for this event. Contact me and let me know if you know of any! Willing to travel for good ones 🙂

Selfless Service

20. IN PROGRESS – I will easily donate 1000 articles of clothing to the Homeless
Today I spent some time to source quality winter socks from suppliers. Why socks? Because I noted from a recent nes article that socks are the most needed items for homeless shelters. Once we place an order on these socks, they will arrive late November early December for us to distribute.

My September 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my September 2017 Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Monthly Overview:

As the days become progressively shorter, the weather starts to cool and leaves begin falling from trees, I find myself in not only a transitionary month seasonally but also a transitionary month personally and professionally.

Not much time remains in the year and I feel a little overwhelmed at all the goals I still yet to complete. But then I remind myself, traditionally, I’ve always been a late starter—someone who has excelled when it matters most. So I will embrace this mentality and forge ahead.

Summer is to enjoy and fall/winter, as I see, it is a time to get busy! Q3 is coming to an end and Q4, the busiest quarter for e-commerce is right around the corner, and I’m feeling good about it.

With love,
Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
The theme of transition definitely continues into my business – this fall we have been working to move our e-commerce platform from Shopify to ClickFunnels. We’ve also changed our strategy from selling small ticket items to larger ticket items. This coupled with the transition of seasons which historically shows a dip in numbers has given us lower than expected numbers thus far. However, this isn’t deterring me from my goals at all. With the upcoming launch of 2 new subscription brands (noted below), I’m still very optimistic and excited for a strong Q4.

2. I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
In the last month, I’ve been inspired to bring my digital Bushido Journal to life as a print product. The goal is to provide a platform to write & commit to your goals in a quarterly (3 months format) journal. The idea is to make a journal so effective, that after the first 3 months, users are compelled to continue their subscription to the powerful tool. I’m excited to bring this project to life and aim to launch in October, ready for the holiday season.
Additionally, inspired by a young local entrepreneur, I’ve been working to bring another subscription service to market. This project revolves around my love for coffee & fitness. Without giving away too much, it’s a pre-workout of sorts which caters to the health conscious fitness enthusiast. I aim to have this ready for market mid Q4 to help with goal #1.

3. I will easily host my first Retreat by December 31st 2017:

Beyond the progress we made early in the year on this task, no additional progress was made on this goal. If I am to be honest with myself, a retreat is looking quite ambitious right now. Though we have the outline created and even sourced some potential locations to hold it—2017 might not be the year of my first retreat. Note to self: If this goal doesn’t happen, hold a post-mortem for all the goals which didn’t come to be to figure out what happened and what could be improved.

4. I will easily be a Certified High-Performance Coach by December 31st 2017:
Well, it seems like I dropped the ball on this one. Initially, I was planning on taking the CHPC training in Spring of 2017, but I changed my mind and decided to do it in the Fall instead. Unfortunately, it seems the fall certification week has either been canceled or is now full. So needless to say I won’t be able to fulfill this goal this year. The certification is a hefty $10k USD and in all honesty, parts of me were a bit reluctant. But with this newfound inspiration in launching my “Plan & Conquer” Journal, a high-performance certification would be a nice asset to my skill set and I will instead now pursue this certification in 2018.

5. I will easily Launch a Course by December 31st, 2017:
At the end of July my team and I wrapped up the last day of filming for the Bushido Body course. The next step is for our video guru, Nate Slaco to edit the footage and for me to create the marketing funnel. I expect the course to launch for Q4.

6. DONE – I will easily hire a team by December 31st, 2017:

This summer we’ve successfully added a Copywriter, Video Talent, an IT Person and a full-time customer service team to our staff. As time progresses, we will continue to further round out our team. One thing I’ve learned is the task of hiring a team is one that never ends. I’m always looking for that next rock star that can help take us to the next level. But I’m very happy with where our team is at now in comparison to the start of the year.

7. I will easily record 30 videos by December 31st 2017:
No progress has been made on this goal yet. But in one of my quarterly reviews, my accountability partner and I came up with a strategy to get this task done in 2017. I’ve refocused on how I’m going to be making these videos and I’m opting for quick 1-min style videos which will be sharable on Instagram as well as YouTube. I will be batch processing this goal in Q4.

8. I will easily write 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
To date, I haven’t managed to keep a steady writing rhythm. My writing streaks have been broken multiple times and I find myself not putting my thoughts on paper for weeks and months at a time. As I reflect on the source of the problem, and not the symptom—I can’t help but think the reason I’m not writing often is that I’m not digesting as much information as I once was. I’m reading less, watching fewer documentaries, taking fewer courses, and I haven’t attended any seminars this year. So to honor this goal, I am committing myself back to digesting more quality content so as to spark more ideas and inspire the writing process once more.

10. I will easily be in the best shape of my life by December 31st 2017
This past month I was able to lean out a considerable amount by reducing my overall caloric count, eating less carbs and increasing my healthy fat intake while practicing fasting on a regular basis. 2018 Fitness Goals:
– Bulk: 205
– Cut: 185 @ sub 10% BF

11. I will easily do the Splits by December 31st 2017:

Since moving downtown, I’ve neglected my splits stretching routine. It’s safe to say that I haven’t made much progress on my splits this month, but I don’t think I’ve lost any of my flexibility either. With that said, I don’t have much time left to accomplish the splits – only 3 months now, so I’m recommitting myself to my splits routine and I will be increasing the frequency and duration of my stretches to make up for lost time. Action Item: Include my splits routine into each workout.

12. I will easily hire a personal Muay Thai Coach
by December 31st 2017:
Despite having sign-up for a free trial at a local Muay Thai gym near my place last month, I have yet to take advantage of it and still need to attend a class. I’m not too worried about this though, the gym is just a few blocks down from my house and it’s not like I ever stopped training. I will get this goal done.

Personal Development Goals:

16. I will easily follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
This past month I’ve been diligent about following my morning routine. I’ve found solace in doing my routine because of the way I feel each time I do it. Since I don’t work a traditional Monday-Friday 9-5 job, I often commit to doing my morning routine 7 days a week. I think this has helped the consistency. So far so good. I look forward to completing this goal and reaping the rewards as I notice the massive benefits of a deep meditation each and every time.

18. I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st:
I’m nowhere close to having read 12 books this year and the thought of writing a report feels overwhelming. In order to salvage this goal, I need to come up with a low friction strategy to catalog the content I read so I can easily transition that information into a report or “Coles Notes” of sorts without too much time or strain. I don’t know what this is yet, but I have created it as an action item for this months review.
19. I will easily attend 1 Personal Development Event by December 31st 2017:
Reflecting back on this summer, I’ve actually been to many “Personal Development Events”. Selfless Service

20. I will easily donate 1000 articles of clothing to the Homeless
No progress has been made on this goal yet. Goal is to donate during the winter of Q4.

Note to self, I recently read a news article which stated the most needed items for homeless shelters are socks! Good to know.

My July & August 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my July & August 2017 Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Monthly Overview:

If you’re reading this and wondering why I’ve mashed July & Augusts review into one post, it’s because I mucked up! I simply just didn’t get around to writing a review in July, and here I am near the end of August finally writing my review. And though the old me might have hated myself for the slip—the new me finds comfort in telling it how it is, learning from my mistake and carrying on with a lesson learned.

The truth is, I might have I missed my review because this summer has been one of my best in recent years. The weather has been gorgeous, I’ve been living in a beautiful part of the city and I’ve intentionally filled the summer it with many adventures with friends and loved ones. Some of which I’ll be covering in this review. So without further ado, let’s get started!

Lots of love—Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
This summer we broke our highest sales volume record twice—once in June and then again in July. And though I’m still a ways from my 5x goal, we still have time and are manifesting a strong end to Q3 and a powerful Q4. Currently, we are just over 2x.

2. I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
In the last 3 weeks, I’ve been inspired to bring my digital Bushido Journal to life as a print product. The goal is to provide a platform to write & commit to your goals in a quarterly (3 months format) journal. Health & Fitness Goals:

10. I will easily be in the best shape of my life by December 31st 2017
As Summer starts to transition to fall and my cutting phase begins to taper, I’ve taken a new approach these last few weeks in not measuring my weight but instead going by the way I look and feel. Because, at the end of a day, a cut isn’t about what your weight is, but rather how you look and the optimal nature of our biomechanical function (our bodies work optimally when we are lean). Recently, I also took part in a 3-day juice fast and felt great during and after. After the cleanse, I noticed myself feeling fuller from smaller meals and generally sharper, and more alert. This juice fast made me realize that I’m very likely overeating. So to test this theory for a longer duration, I’ve begun to incorporate longer times of fasting and smaller meals for the next 4 weeks. I’ll post a picture before I return to bulking.

11. I will easily do the Splits by December 31st 2017:
Since moving downtown, I’ve neglected my splits stretching routine. It’s safe to say that I haven’t made much progress on my splits this month, but I don’t think I’ve lost any of my flexibility either. With that said, I don’t have much time left to accomplish the splits – 4 months, so I’m recommitting myself to my splits routine and I will be increasing the frequency and duration of my stretches to make up for lost time.

12. I will easily hire a personal Muay Thai Coach by December 31st 2017:
Moments before writing this blog post, I signed up for a week trial at a reputable Muay Thai gym near my house. I’m looking forward to checking it out and completing this goal in the near future! =)

Travel & Lifestyle

13. I will easily cross off 2 different destinations on my LIFE LIST by December 31st 2017
I successfully visited Montreal and New York City this summer. Both cities wowed me in different ways. The European influence in Montreal made it seem like I had a little piece of Europe in my own back yard (without the 10-hour flight and needing to change currencies) and the sheer size and scale of New York city inspired me to dream bigger grow my business larger.

Later this year i’ll be doing a Hawaii trip with family (the first family trip in recent history!) and I’m also planting the seeds for something international, maybe Columbia as discussed in earlier reviews, or maybe South East Asia to escape from the winter.

14. I will easily have lived in a Creative Space / Loft by December 31st 2017:
This summer I’ve spent my time living in a beautiful bright sub-loft in an active, sprawling part of the city next to the beach, some of my favorite cafes and close to the downtown core. In the process, I’ve learned a lot about the Vancouver real estate market and in the future, I look forward to purchasing property in this beautiful city. Photos of my space coming soon 🙂

15. I will easily record a Song by December 31st 2017:
This year has been musically fruitful for me.  I had the pleasure of performing a solo with my choir, the YVR Pop Choir this Summer and I’m looking forward to working with my choir director 1-on-1 to bring the very first song I ever wrote to life in Q3-Q4. Stay tuned!

Personal Development Goals:

16. I will easily follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
In recent months my morning routine has been fairly consistent, but I haven’t been practicing it in its entirety. For example, I’ve often overlooked my morning mobility workout and I haven’t reviewed my morning vision document in months.

For the next month, I will be revising my morning routine, eliminating anything which doesn’t excite me or serve me and reincorporating those routines which are fundamental to my goals.

17. I will easily Meditate every day by December 31st 2017:
So without realizing it, the way I wrote this goal has lead to self-sabotage. After meditating every day for the first 3-4 weeks of the year, I missed a day. This seemingly small slip-up turned into a horrible feeling of failing an entire goal, because no matter how much I meditated thereafter, I would never reach my goal of meditating every day in 2017. This caused a misalignment within, associating my meditation practice with the feelings and sensations of failure. This experience caused me to rethink my goal and how I use these goals to motivate myself. Instead of my old meditation goal, my new meditation goal is to meditate 100 days in a row, which gives me new found motivation and something to reach for.

Let this be a lesson to myself to never again become a victim of my goals, but rather setup my goals and revise my goals so they serve me.

18. I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st:
I’m nowhere close to having read 12 books this year and the thought of writing a report feels overwhelming. I think in order to salvage this goal, I need to come up with a low friction strategy to catalog the content I read so I can easily transition that information into a report or “Coles Notes” of sorts without too much time or strain. I don’t know what this is yet, but I will think on it.

19. I will easily attend 1 Personal Development Event by December 31st 2017:
Reflecting back on this summer, I’ve actually been to many Personal Development “Events”. I attended the Samurai Brotherhood Open House, the Man Talks Hike & Talk Event and even a Satsung hosted by a dear friend. And at the end of September, I’m booked to attend the Entrepreneurs Dinner Event in Dallas Texas. But the intention for this goal wasn’t to attend small events, but rather to attend a seminar, preferably a powerful multi-day seminar to really empower me and my vision. I’m still on the hunt for this event. Contact me and let me know if you know of any! Willing to travel for good ones 🙂

Selfless Service

20. I will easily donate 1000 articles of clothing to the Homeless
No progress has been made on this goal yet. Goal is to donate during the winter of Q4.

Note to self, I recently read a news article which stated the most needed items for homeless shelters are socks! Good to know.

End of review.

My June 2017 Goals Review

Notice:

Due to a random glitch, my review for June 2017 has disappeared! 🙁 Despite some readers confirming that they read my June post, it seems to have gone missing after an automatic WordPressdpress update. After trying for hours to recover this lost post, I’ve decided to move on with my life lol.

  • Hired a WordPress expert from UpWork to help
  • Looked into the WordPress database to find old versions of this blog but was unsuccessful
  • Asked my web host for a backup, but they only supply backups of 30 days – which wasn’t long enough.

If anyone knows anything else I can try to recover my lost post – please let me know. Otherwise, let this be a reminder to all of us to backup regularly and don’t write directly in WordPress (as I have done) instead write your blog posts in Google docs and transfer them over when ready. See ya next month!

Lots of love,
Sunny.

My May 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my May 2017 Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Monthly Overview:

May was a transitionary month for me. I really felt some great momentum going into May which has carried through and has only magnified since.

In this month I experienced business growth, growth in the gym and the growth of new and old relationships.

Summer feels like it’s already here, and the warm sun and cool breeze remind me to live in the moment and be thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. This past month I’ve been especially blessed to have a loving family, the joy of a 1-year-old nephew and the celebration of life long friends.

Without further delay, lets dive into the review. Have an amazing month and I hope you gain something out of my review below.

With love—Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
I was going into May with the slowest sales month of the year in April—but that turned around last month. Lately, my focus has been almost exclusively eCommerce. This focus has led to more quality product launches and an expansion of our team.

2. I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
After canning my Toiletries Subscription Service idea earlier this year, I’ve put all my time & effort solely on my main eCommerce venture. As noted above, this has allowed me to be much more focused & productive. I still plan on a Bushido Academy Monthly Masterclass subscription later this year, but not before I have grown and fully automated my eCommerce business.

3. I will easily host my first Retreat by December 31st 2017:
Beyond the progress we made early in the year on this task, no additional progress was made on this goal for May.

4. I will easily be a Certified High-Performance Coach by December 31st 2017:
Scheduled for Fall 2017.

5. I will easily Launch a Course by December 31st 2017:
The Bushido Body course is roughly 70% filmed, but due to travel amongst multiple team members, filming has been postponed until the end of June and I aim to launch shortly after.

6. I will easily hire a team by December 31st 2017:
In the past month we added a Copywriter, Email Marketer & Video Talent to our team. Our next steps are to build a 24/hr Customer Service team and find an eComm Manager so we may expand further.

7. I will easily record 30 videos by December 31st 2017:
No progress has been made on this goal yet. But in my Q1 review, my accountability partner and I came up with a strategy to get this task done in 2017. I’ve refocused on how I’m going to be making these videos and I’m opting for quick 1-min style videos which will be sharable on Instagram as well as YouTube.

8. I will easily write 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
Last month I only wrote a handful of days. I’m a far ways from writing 5 days a week, but I have lots of time to achieve this goal still. I will focus more on this goal when I streamline my eCommerce work more.

9. I will easily reach 200,000 followers on Social Media by December 31st:
No progress on this goal yet. My goal is to rewatch my Social Media courses & implement their strategies full force once my eCommerce work is automated.

Health & Fitness Goals:

10. I will easily be in the best shape of my life by December 31st 2017
In the past month, I’ve taken up Functional Patterns—a movement philosophy which strengthens & rebalances your body based on breath work, myofascial release and sound biomechanics. Since doing this work, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my posture and the overall appearance of my body. It’s been great to see these changes. I’ve also officially stopped my bulk and have begun to transition to a cut.My peak bulk this year was 188.2lbs.

The biggest improvement in my body has been the repair and progress of my right shoulder. For years I’ve suffered from a weak right side—but this is the first time in a long time that I feel equally strong on both sides. I see symmetry and balance in my body, and it’s inspiring.

11. I will easily do the Splits by December 31st 2017:
Since moving downtown, I’ve neglected my splits stretching routine. It’s safe to say that I haven’t made much progress on my splits this month, but I don’t think I’ve lost any of my flexibility either.

12. I will easily hire a personal Muay Thai Coach by December 31st 2017:
This goal is planned for Q3.

Travel & Lifestyle

13. I will easily cross off 2 different destinations on my LIFE LIST by December 31st 2017
In April I booked trips to both New York and Montreal. Later this year I’m contemplating doing a Hawaii trip with family and also something international, maybe Columbia as discussed in earlier reviews, or maybe the Philippines. Only time will tell which destination will come to fruition, but either way, I’m envisioning some great travels this year!

14. I will easily have lived in a Creative Space / Loft by December 31st 2017:
Currently, I am subletting a Condo by Sunset Beach in DT Vancouver for 6-8 weeks. During this time I will be I sourcing accommodations which are more in line with my Loft/Creative Space goal. I’m excited to be living back in Vancouver and will be making the most of it!

15. I will easily record a Song by December 31st 2017:
In April I submitted an audition for a solo performance in my choir—just a few weeks ago I was selected to perform a solo during our performance at the end of this month. I’m excited about this opportunity and can’t wait to bring this whole singing thing to life!

Personal Development Goals:

16. I will follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
This month I’ve been quite good about following my routine each morning. I was following my routine well for the first few weeks of the month but slipped up a little near the end of the month.

17. I will easily Meditate every day by December 31st 2017:
This past month I probably meditated only about 50% of my days. Room for improvement, but still, an improvement over last month.

18. I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st:
I’ve only read 1 book this year – and a few audio books. I don’t have a nightly reading routine in place and must make this a routine before I see progress on this goal.

19. I will easily attend 1 Personal Development Event by December 31st 2017:
No progress has been made on this goal yet.

Selfless Service

20. I will easily donate 1000 articles of clothing to the Homeless
No progress has been made on this goal yet. Goal is to donate during the winter of Q4.

My April 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my April 2017 Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Monthly Overview:

April has been a very satisfying month for me. I’ve never felt as productive or focused as I did this past month. I definitely worked the hardest I have in recent memory.

However, the month wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, to-date April was my lowest performing sales month of the year, but as you’ll read in this review, you’ll see why I’m not too concerned.

As I usher in May I’m excited for the warmer months ahead. I’m a summer baby and I feed off the energy, longer days and vitamin D all provided by the sun. Also, I’m now posted in Downtown Vancouver—not quite in a loft yet but inching towards that goal day-by-day 🙂

Have an amazing month and I hope you get some benefit out of my review below.

Lots of love—Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
As mentioned in the overview above, April was my slowest sales month of the year so far. But despite this, I’ve had a huge mental breakthrough for how I view and operate my business. The truth I’ve come to learn is that in order to make money, you have to spend money. And generally, I’ve been quite stingy with my spending. This likely comes from growing up in an immigrant household where I witnessed my parents work hard, and spend sparingly, saving so that we can enjoy many of the privileges we have today. But when it comes to business, you want your money to work for you, and I’ve now started to invest into my business more by hiring rockstar talent instead of doing as much of the work as possible by myself, or worse—hiring sub-par talent. Delegating tasks to capable people free’s up time and expands my capabilities. I’ll elaborate on this in goal #6.

2. I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
After canning my Toiletries Subscription Service idea earlier this year, I’ve put all my time & effort solely on my main eCommerce venture. This has allowed me to be much more focused & productive. I will still execute on a Bushido Academy Monthly Masterclass subscription service later this year, but not before I have grown and fully automated my eCommerce business.

3. I will easily host my first Retreat by December 31st 2017:
Beyond the progress we’ve made in past months on this task, no additional progress was made on this goal for April.

4. I will easily be a Certified High-Performance Coach by December 31st 2017:
Due to a conflict in schedule, I have changed the date for this certification training to the Fall of 2017 instead of Summer 2017.

5. I will easily Launch a Course by December 31st 2017:
The Bushido Body course is roughly 70% complete, but due to travel amongst multiple team members, filming has been postponed until the end of May and I aim to launch shortly after.

6. I will easily hire a team by December 31st 2017:
This goal was where the bulk of my efforts lay in April. After my original team (assembled in February) started to fall apart, I had to figure out what I was doing wrong and how to improve it. A big part of the problem was a limited budget. We’ve all heard the saying, “you get what you pay for” and as I’ve come to find out, this is also true in business. As a result I’ve increased the budget for my team and since then the quality of our work has improved dramatically. Much work still remains as I create efficient processes and continue to add members to our team, including a full-time eCommerce Manager. Additionally, I have learned it helps to hire people who specialize in what you’re looking for. For example, I spent a lot of time sourcing an eCommerce Manager on my own, but recently I’ve teamed up with a Virtual Staffing agency who will help find me my ideal Manager and will also help me scale my business when needed. This resource should help me find a better candidate for me while also removing much of the headache associated with sourcing multiple team members and scaling operations.

This past month I recommitted to writing again after taking roughly 6 months off. I felt a little rusty getting started again and I can truthfully say I still haven’t found my groove yet. Some days, dispute my efforts I haven’t been able to put out worthwhile content and I’m not about to release mediocre work—this is my craft and I honor it as such. I still have lots of time to reach my goal of writing 5 days a week and I feel like I’m on the right track again as I ease back into writing, finding joy in writing a solid piece which inspires, motivates and uplifts.

I mentioned last month that I was very happy with my progress on this goal to date. I’m on target to hitting my bulking goals but after my report last month it seems I got a little over-confident and started bulking a little recklessly, adding more fat to my frame than wanted or necessary. I’m making the necessary revisions to my diet and cardio regiment to remedy this and see these changes as necessary course corrections to hit my goals in the months to come.

  • March 1 – June – 14 BULK
  • June 15 – July 15 CUT

11. I will easily do the Splits by December 31st 2017:
The splits are coming along nicely. I’m feeling quite confident in this goal, though I’ve had some strange issues in my pelvis with pops and cracks I never noticed before (yikes!). I’ll have to get this checked out, but overall very happy with my progress here. Will post a progress picture on Instagram soon :).

Later this year I’m contemplating doing a Hawaii trip with family and also something international, maybe Columbia as discussed in earlier reviews, or maybe Philippinesines where my virtual staff HQ is.

In April I submitted an audition for a solo performance in my choir—fingers crossed! Additionally, choir rehearsals have been going great and I am getting more and more confident in my voice. I also won free a free Vocal training session with my amazing Choir director and vocal coach Rebecca Lam and I’m super excited about this. Rebecca is an angel and I’m so grateful to have her as a director and vocal coach! Check her out here!

Personal Development Goals:

16. I will follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
Last month, after having difficulty with my morning routine, I revised my routine and even posted it on my bathroom mirror as a reminder to follow through with my commitment. This seemed to work for a short while but as the month progressed I noticed myself falling asleep later and later at night and I became flexible on the time I would wake up each morning, which derailed my routine alltogether. Now, having just moved I am recommitting once again, this time I am unwilling to to revise my morning alarm for the sake of comfort and being more strict with the time I sleep. Discipline 101.

17. I will easily Meditate every day by December 31st 2017:
Whenever I have a weak morning routine, my meditation (which is part of my morning routine ) seems to fall apart too (duh). Though these last few days I’ve been having great success with both, I hope to keep this momentum up with my chance of address. New space, new routines, new me 😉

18. I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st:
Again, I didn’t read anything in April. I have a shelf of books which I’ve ordered but not yet committed to reading. I’m hoping my new daily routine will give me more space to enjoy books more regularly.

Goals

My March 2017 Goals Review

At the end of each month, I perform a monthly goal review where I measure the progress of my 2017 goals and recalibrate my performance to ensure I reach my targets for the year.

The objective of this review is to be 100% honest and truthful with myself and learn from my mistakes & wins as I go.

Below is my March 2017 Monthly Goals Review, which goes over each goal that I set and the progress that I’ve made so far. Ultimately, it is my hope that my goal list and process inspire you to set and achieve your own goals & ambitions.

General Monthly Overview:

As March wound to a close, I felt empowered, focused and excited again after a short spell of the opposite.

April brings with it the start of a new Quarter, Q2 and for that reason I did a review of Q1 this weekend. After reviewing Q1 of 2017, I can honestly say I’m so glad I began to document my goals this year. Reviewing my progress has shown me my strengths and exposed my weaknesses. It’s allowed me to celebrate my victories and analyze my shortcomings.

Too often in my life I’ve set goals, always starting strong but losing steam while in the trenches.  This process of documenting my goals and especially documenting them publically holds me accountable to my intentions for 2017 and allows me to course-correct as I go—something which is paramount to success in any endeavor.

I’m excited for Q2 and can’t wait to start the first Monday of the month tomorrow. Hope you’re feeling just as empowered as I am.

Lots of love—Sunny.

Business Goals:

1. I will easily 5x my monthly income by December 31st 2017:
I didn’t experience much growth in March in comparison to February, but overall I’m happy with the numbers in Q1 because we’ve matched or exceeded our Christmas season numbers every month this year. I’m very optimistic about this goal and I’m really excited to try some new marketing techniques to increase sales.

2. I will easily launch a successful Subscription Service by December 31st 2017:
I spent a good chunk of time in Q1 sourcing suppliers and fulfillment options for my Toiletries Subscription Service brand. But after some time crunching numbers, talking with suppliers and fulfillment operations, the idea just didn’t work—it was going to be very difficult to make it profitable given our current resources and reach. I’m so glad I put in the work to validate this idea before launching it blindly like I have so many other initiatives before (thank you life-experience!). I’ll continue brainstorming other subscription service ideas with the intent to launch at least 1 subscription service this year. Alternatively, I still want to execute on a Bushido Academy Monthly Masterclass subscription service, but not before I have automated the bulk of my eCommerce business—one thing at a time.

3. I will easily host my first Retreat by December 31st 2017:
This month my team and I came together to design a series of live talks in Vancouver which are designed to promote our retreat later this year. We’ve found places to host our talks and started some very preliminary branding exercises with considerations for potential names and target audiences.

4. I will easily be a Certified High-Performance Coach by December 31st 2017:
No progress made on this goal yet. Training starts in June 2017, or alternatively, training also starts in the Fall of 2017.

5. I will easily Launch a Course by December 31st 2017:
This month we finished filming roughly 70% of the Bushido Body course, our goal was to finish filming in March, but due to an unforeseen injury, we had to postpone our filming. I hope to wrap up filming this month given the schedules of all those involved match-up and launch shortly after.

6. I will easily hire a team by December 31st 2017:
In March, the first ever team I assembled in February started falling apart. My lack of experiencing managing a team is to blame for this. I have learned that a team is organic in nature and must be nurtured and tended to. For reasons of laziness, lack of excitement and poor of awareness, I neglected to nurture my team and things began to fall apart as a result. So in April, it is my goal to take what I learned from Version 1.0 of my team and put the effort into greatly improving my team to Version 2.0. For this, I have multiple strategies, one of which is to hire a manager who is my go-to when assigning tasks and reviewing progress. At the moment, I am interacting with multiple team members which isn’t time-efficient and can be energetically draining.  Instead, I will restructure my team with a manager role making it easier for me to spend time nurturing the team and keeping them occupied with work & challenges which will keep them excited, focused and engaged.

I lost touch with writing in Q1, focusing almost exclusively on eCommerce. I am reminded that writing is very therapeutic and for me it can be very inspiring to translate complicated ideas into simplified ideas for easy absorption. This is also a skill set I will be using for the rest of my life, so I want to train it. For these reasons, I am recommitting to this task—writing and posting 1 Bushido Code a day. I have scheduled this in my calendar so it actually happens.

I’m very happy with my fitness results in Q1. I look & feel great. I surpassed my goal of 185lbs and weighed in at 185.5 @ 10% BF (rough guide measured with a cheap electronic scale) which is bigger and leaner that I had expected. I am now coming down to the last portion of my bulking phase and am excited to see what I can achieve with the time allotted. My Bulk cycle ends ~June 14th, but I may shorten this to June 1st depending on my results.

  • March 1 – June – 14 BULK
  • June 15 – July 15 CUT

11. I will easily do the Splits by December 31st 2017:
This month I took my first pictures of me doing the splits (as low as I could go). Since then I’ve really put more focus and energy into doing the splits. Again, I feel it’s the act of making my goals public (this time in the form of pictures on my Instagram) which really motivate and drive me. I also have new workout warm-up routine which I believe will help me get to my goal faster.

12. I will easily hire a personal Muay Thai Coach by December 31st 2017:
This goal is planned for Q3.

Travel & Lifestyle

13. I will easily cross off 2 different destinations on my LIFE LIST by December 31st 2017
This Quarter I set the intention for a trip to New York and also a trip to Columbia too. With Columbia, I’ll be able to cross off my “Visit South American” off my Life List too. Plans for these trips begin this week. Stay tuned!

14. I will easily have lived in a Creative Space / Loft by December 31st 2017:
May 1st I will be subletting a Condo in Yaletown for 6-8 weeks. During this time I will be I sourcing accommodations which are more in line with my Loft/Creative Space goal. I’m excited to be living back in Vancouver and plan on using the Month of April to work extra hard so I can really enjoy my summer in Vancouver.

15. I will easily record a Song by December 31st 2017:
Today I performed with the YVR Choir at our first ever SOLD OUT show & charity event. The show was a massive success and I feel like I’m one step closer to achieving my goal of recording a track in 2017. I’m rejoining the choir in Q2 for additional practice and accountability and I hope to secure some 1-on-1 training soon too.

Personal Development Goals:

16. I will easily Meditate every day by December 31st 2017:
This month my meditation routine was the worst of month of any month so far. This is due to my weak morning routine ritual. As you’ll read below, I’ve recommitted to my morning ritual and with it, my meditation routine. I might also revise this goal to meditate for 100 days in a row, which would still be an accomplishment I would be proud of.

17. I will follow my morning routine 5 days a week by December 31st 2017:
As mentioned above, my morning routine wasn’t very well kept in March with the exception of the last 1/3rd of the month where I began to refocus on the core pillars of my routine which brought more clarity and energy to my days. This quarter I’m 100% recommitting to my morning routine. I’ve revised it slightly and posted it on my bathroom mirror so I’m able to follow it even if I’m still half asleep =P

18. I will easily Condense 12 books into Reports by December 31st:
I didn’t read anything in March. I have a shelf of books which I’ve ordered but not yet committed to reading. I’m hoping my new daily routine will give me more space to enjoy books more regularly.

19. I will easily attend 1 Personal Development Event by December 31st 2017:
